Barwise Middle School is proud to support military-connected students and families as they transition to Wichita Falls ISD and the Wichita Falls community. We understand that military life often involves frequent moves and changes, and our staff is committed to providing a supportive environment where students feel welcomed, valued, and connected.

At Barwise, students are encouraged to explore new interests, build leadership skills, and develop meaningful relationships through academics, athletics, fine arts, clubs, and extracurricular activities. We work closely with military families to ensure students receive the support necessary to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Campus-Based Military Liaison

Military Liaison Duties Include:

Serving as the campus point of contact for military-connected students and families.
Assisting with enrollment and records transfer.
Coordinating support services for military-connected students.
Connecting families with community resources.
Supporting student transitions during military relocations.
Providing information regarding educational opportunities and support programs.
Supporting campus staff through military-connected student awareness and training opportunities.

Enrollment & Registration

The following information is provided to assist military families with enrollment and registration.

New Student Enrollment

To enroll, a parent, legal guardian, authorized caregiver, or adult with custody documentation must provide a valid ID and the following:

Proof of Residence
Student Birth Certificate
Immunization Records
Parent/Guardian ID
Previous School Records (if applicable)
Social Security Card (optional)

To ensure prompt enrollment for military-connected students, active-duty members of the U.S. armed forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, can establish residency for school enrollment by submitting a military order indicating their transfer to a military base within or near the school district’s adjacent to the district’s attendance zone. (TEC §25.001(c-1))
To ensure prompt enrollment for military-connected students active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, can establish residency for school enrollment by submitting a military order indicating their transfer to a military base within or near the school district’s attendance area within 90-days of their arrival. (TEC §25.001(c-2))

Additional documents may be needed, such as medical information, special program details, or custody paperwork.

Returning Student Registration

Pre-Kindergarten Program & Eligibility

Did you know that Wichita Falls ISD provides full-day Pre-K programs at several campuses across the district to support early childhood learning.

To enroll in the Prekindergarten program, a child must be four years old on or before September 1 of the upcoming school year. Students are eligible if they meet at least one of the following criteria:

Limited English proficiency
Eligible for the National School Lunch Program
Child of an active-duty United States military member
Child of a military member injured or killed in service
Currently or previously in foster care through Texas DFPS

Student Transfer Requests & Eligibility

Per district policy FDB (LOCAL), all students will attend the schools they reside in, unless granted permission to transfer based on these criteria:

Child of District Employee
Child of Parent Stationed at Sheppard AFB on Active Military Orders
Child of Peace Officer in Accordance with State Law
IB Student (Legacy HS Only)
Sibling of a Centralized Program Student
Current 4th Grader Affected by Attendance Zone Change (West Foundation, Fowler)

Please note: If your child is part of a centralized special education program, you do not need to complete a transfer request form to remain in the program. If you have any questions regarding centralized programs, please call the special education department at 940-235-1019.

The District Transfer Committee follows the guidelines set in FDB (LOCAL). This information can be found on the WFISD website. Please complete the form below to allow the District Transfer Committee the ability to make a decision. No transfers are guaranteed. Available space and staffing may be a defining issue when granting or denying a transfer.

Notice: A person who knowingly falsifies information to establish residency for a student in a public school shall be liable to the public school if the student is enrolled on the basis of false information. The Texas Penal Code 37.10 (c) (3) states that falsification of enrollment documents is a Class C misdemeanor and a school district may enforce civil penalties for this offense. See Texas Penal Code 37.10 and Texas Education Code 25.001.

Academic Planning

Military-connected students often transition between school districts, states, and educational systems. Barwise Middle School is committed to supporting academic continuity and helping students successfully transition into new learning environments while maintaining academic progress.

Campus staff work closely with families to review academic records, determine appropriate placement, and ensure students have access to the programs and services necessary for success.

Advanced Academics

Barwise Middle School provides multiple advanced academic pathways designed to challenge students, support individual strengths and interests, and prepare learners for future college, career, and military readiness goals.

Programs and opportunities include:

Gifted & Talented (GT)

Wichita Falls ISD's Gifted & Talented program is designed to meet the educational needs of students who demonstrate exceptional academic potential and advanced learning abilities. Students participate in learning experiences that emphasize critical thinking, creativity, innovation, research, and problem-solving.

Advanced Coursework Opportunities

Students may participate in advanced coursework designed to strengthen academic skills, promote higher-level thinking, and prepare students for future Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Credit, and OnRamps opportunities available in high school.

Credit by Exam (CBE)

Credit by Exam opportunities may be available for eligible students seeking grade-level advancement or demonstrating mastery of academic content.

Military Student Academic Transition Programs

As a member state of the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3), Texas supports educational policies that help military-connected students transition smoothly between schools.

Career & Technical Education (CTE)

Barwise Middle School students have opportunities to explore introductory Career and Technical Education concepts and learn about future career pathways available through Wichita Falls ISD. Students may participate in activities and experiences that introduce career exploration and help prepare them for future CTE opportunities in high school and at the Career Education Center.

Military-connected students are encouraged to become involved in athletics, fine arts programs, academic organizations, and extracurricular activities that help build friendships and establish connections within the school community.

Eligibility for Extracurricular Activities

Barwise Middle School encourages military-connected students to become actively involved in campus life through a variety of extracurricular activities, fine arts programs, leadership opportunities, academic organizations, and athletics.

Military families may still participate in extracurricular activities even if application deadlines have passed. Schools are required to provide families with information about available activities and ensure access to communication channels related to participation opportunities.

Athletics

Barwise Middle School offers a variety of athletic opportunities that promote teamwork, leadership, responsibility, physical fitness, and school pride. Student-athletes have opportunities to participate in UIL athletic programs while developing skills that support success both on and off the field.

Participation in athletics helps students build strong relationships with teammates and coaches while becoming actively engaged in campus life. Military-connected students are encouraged to participate in athletics as a way to establish connections and strengthen their sense of belonging within the Barwise community. For additional support or information, contact your school administrators, coaches, or Campus-Based Military Liaison regarding extracurricular eligibility under the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3).

Student Record & Transcript Requests

When military families relocate, Wichita Falls ISD works with receiving schools to facilitate timely transfer of academic records, transcripts, special program documentation, and other educational records to support uninterrupted student enrollment and placement.

Military families may request student records through Wichita Falls ISD's Records Request process. For assistance with this process, please connect with our campus based military liaison.

Parent Communication

ParentSquare serves as the primary communication platform between families, teachers, and administrators.
